The "M" Family

I love every opportunity I get to spend with the "M" family. Because I have two girls, I find it so much fun to get down and dirty and wild with three boys. And of course, I adore Mom and Dad as well. :) This time, we went to the Devonian Botanical Gardens for pictures. It is such a beautiful place to get outside and run around.

Mom and Dad brought Grandma to watch the kids so that I could get a few pictures of just the two of them. Great idea guys!

The oldest...just 6 days younger than my oldest. He is getting more and more fun every time I see him.

I met this lovely family at the Hotel MacDonald for their photo session. While the session was mostly for Mom, I did get some of Dad and their son "C" while Mom was getting ready. :)

So handsome.

Mr. "C" loved bouncing on the bed, and I loved capturing him mid-air.

Mr. & Mrs. "P" - A wedding blessing

Mr. & Mrs. "P" were married in Jamaica earlier this year. Today is their wedding blessing celebration in Leduc. I am so fortunate to be able to photograph their special day (even if the weather isn't as nice as we had hoped).

They had a special tattoo in honour of their love. I think it is really neat. :)

Everyone say "Hi" to the "P" family. These great friends of mine are a blast to hang out with, whether for a photo session or just a play date. Mrs. P and I used to work together, so anytime we get together, we have tons to talk about. :) Today, I met them at Millenium Park in Sherwood Park. It was a bit windy, and it sprinkled off and on, but I think we got some great images, regardless of what the weather did.

And this was hilarious. Older daughters have a way of stealing the spotlight. In this case, Miss "M" didn't want to line up for a family picture. Instead, opting to stand to the side with her arms defiantly crossed. Priceless picture. :)

Spring is in the air. The leaf buds are starting to fill out with their brilliant spring green foliage, the geese are back, and the weather is finally getting warm...er. I met this adorable family at the park by Kinsmen Recreation Center this afternoon and had a good time walking around .

I can't believe this little bean is 6 months old already. How quickly they change, and oh how I do so enjoy taking pictures of those changes.

There is something about photographing a new baby that makes my heart skip a beat. Their soft skin, downy hair, little noises...hmmm....this mommy loves little babies. Today I got to play with another sweet little girl who, at one month old, had an amazing smile.

Sweet little "K"

Nothing makes me happier than to have the opportunity to photograph babies as they grow up. I met sweet little "K" last spring when she was brand new, and again in the fall when we did some family pictures. You can see her newborn session here, and the fall family session here.

I now have the absolute pleasure of photographing her as she turns 1 year old.

Moving the Edmonton Queen: K&C Oilfield Hauling

What an amazing day! I had the absolute pleasure of being asked to photograph K&C Oilfield Hauling as they towed the Edmonton Queen River Boat onto shore for its' 5 year hull inspection. Enjoy these images...

Spending Time With The "P" Family

I met the "P" family almost a year ago when my oldest daughter was enrolled in gymnastics with their daughter. Mrs. "P" and I would sit and talk and laugh at the girls having fun. When they welcomed their son into the family, she asked me to come take pictures. Somehow, we lost track of time for a few months. Mr. "C" is now four months old, and I think that we caught some awesome personality shots of him (and his big sister). Enjoy.

"M" & "T" - Country Lovebirds

I have wanted to do a snowy engagement session in ages...and I was so thrilled when M & T asked me to go play in the snow with them. These two have so much fun together, and are so clearly in love with each other, animals, and their country life. :)

One of my favorites. :)

This picture is amazing to me. We were on a bridge, completely exposed to the wind off of the nearby river. It was the coldest part of the session, and yet these two stood on the bridge canoodling away as if it weren't cold at all. :)

I love how the snow is dusting M's hair. :)

Edmonton Newborn Photographer - Sweet Baby "S"

I am so thankful. I love what I do. To be able to meet families, play with kids, celebrate weddings and snuggle babies...what better job is there? (aside from being a wife and mommy to my own family). This little sweet pea just bloomed off of one of the branches of the "S" family. She is perfect. Absolutely perfect. I felt so lucky to get some baby snuggles with her today. :)

Getting cuddly with big sister "I". I shot big sister's newborn pictures too. I didn't see it at first, but now that I have done the editing and really had a close look...oh ya... there is no question that they are sisters. :)

Time for the official Mr & Mrs "K" wedding post! I can't believe how quickly this wedding came. They booked me this spring, when my littlest girl was so small, and before I knew it, it was time to follow the Bride & Groom around with my camera. October 2, 2010...a perfect day for a wedding.

This chair is at the Bride's parents' house. I LOVED it and had to do a picture of her shoes on it. Pearls in a tree.

I met up with the "J" family at the U of A campus this afternoon. We played in leaves, splashed in water and even ran into a little penguin. :)

I had the most amazing session today. One of Hannah's playschool teachers lives out on an incredible acreage in Spring Lake. We went there today to take some pictures of her family.

It is such a privilege when another photographer phones me to take pictures of their family. In this case, my photographer friend is from Ft. McMurray, and she was visiting Edmonton for the weekend. A phone call + a spontaneous photo session = these are the awesome images that I captured. :)

I do not make it a habit of jumping the queue and editing a session out of turn, but I had to make an exception for this one. I had the most amazing time with the "M" family today out at a private farm just outside of Beaumont. Daddy "M" drove by it on the way home from work one day and knocked on the door to ask if he could have family pictures taken there. I had not seen this location prior to the session. My jaw dropped when I pulled into the yard. Oh My Goodness, this place was a photographer's dream!!

Edmonton Family Photographer - The "B" and extended families

Do you know what is even better than seeing a client with a new baby? Seeing them again, on the next day, with extended family! This was the "B" family weekend, and it was just awesome. I got to know a totally different side of the family, and I loved it. Here are some of my favorite shots from the afternoon.

The trees were an amazing yellow/orange! I love fall.

Tall blowing grasses make my heart melt. They make an image look so soft. And the colors...Oh the fall colors. :)

At the end, the family decided to pull out all the quads and take a picture with everyone on. Everyone including the family doggies (can you find them all in this picture?) and Mr. "T"s little quad. It cracks me up! I can only imagine how fun this family is to go camping with. :)

I feel so privileged to have spent two days with your amazing family! It truly was a pleasure getting to know everyone, and capture your family with some awesome fall foliage. Looking forward to the next time I get to see you.

Edmonton Baby Photographer - The "B" Family's Newest Addition

Edmonton Family Photographer - The "B" Family

This family was awesome. Purely awesome. Why? Because it was one of the coldest fall days today, and even with the threat of rain, and some pretty cold sprinkles from above, they still went through with their session. I think I shot for almost 20 minutes before we called it quits. I was most impressed with little "B", as while she wasn't a super cheery little girl, she sure tolerated a lot.

There is something about a pregnant woman that makes the world seem all rosey and happy. Maybe it is because I still have young children, that I remember the excitement (and discomfort) of those last few months. Regardless, I maintain that all pregnant ladies are beautiful, and I absolutely love photographing them!

Photographing new babies is a joy and a challenge. The session rarely goes the way you want it to. Baby always needs a cuddle, burp, change, bottle, snuggle, another change etc. This session, however, went pretty well. I've had the pleasure to photograph this family 3 times this year. We laugh and laugh and chat the whole session...I often get a few pictures of mom talking instead of smiling. :)

It is always fun for me to do location photography. I like to get outside, in a new spot and look around. This session took me to a home out in Spring Lake. A beautiful little place with lovely trees and a really nifty grape vine that took on a unique shape this year.

I have so many amazing clients. Honestly, I do. This family, is one of the few that hold an incredibly special place in my heart. I have watched little Mr. "C" grow over the last 3 years, and I feel so honored to have been the one to photograph him. Edmonton Corporate Photographer - North Shore Environmental

I do not get the opportunity to do corporate functions very often, but when I do, I find myself enjoying them more and more. Today, I got to spend the afternoon with the employees of North Shore Environmental (Edmonton), as they played a game of ball at Telus Field.

I have lived in Edmonton for 8 years now, and have never been to a game at Telus Field, so I found it quite exciting to actually get to go on the field to take pictures. :) And it was a BEAUTIFUL day for it too. Just look at those big white puffy clouds against the blue sky!

Edmonton & Area Family Photographer - Fun With The "W" Family

I had a fantastic morning session with the "W" family today. They wanted some pictures with their skis at Snow Vally Ski hill, and I was happy to take the pictures. This family is so adorable, and so much fun to hang around with. They had me laughing from the start, and for hours after their session.

My absolute favorite picture from their session. Silhouettes are always fun, but the fact that Dad "W" jumped the highest, makes this one of my all time favorites. :)

Growing up in California, we were often told to "go play on the freeway" when our parents wanted to get us out of their hair. Well, I had this family play "under" the freeway for a few shots. :)

When possible, I like to get Mom and Dad alone for a few images together. I am usually quite happy with the end results, and this is no exception.

Their three children were very fun to photograph. Each had such a unique personality, and a brilliant smile, that I could not stop taking pictures of them. :)

Thank you for bringing your skis out for a few early fall pictures. :) I had so much fun getting to know your family, and look forward to another opportunity to take some fun and different pictures with you.

I met up with my lovely neighbors today to take some photographs of their growing children. What a difference a year makes! This darling trio of youngsters were so easy to photograph this time around. One of them even told Mom that she "had fun" and expressed an interested in "doing it again". Horray for wanting more photos!

It is an honor when clients come back for repeat sessions. You get to know them, to watch them change over the years. It is even more of an honor when it has been years between the first and second sessions. I love this little family. They have such a special place in my heart. I had the honor of photographing their newest arrival back in February, and now I have the privilege to photograph them again, before arrival number two...arrives. (hehe).

San Diego & Area Family Photographer - Meet the "R", "V", "H" & "G" Families

The main purpose of my trip to San Diego, this time, was to be the official photographer for my grandmother's 90th birthday. All of our family came from all over (northern CA, Japan, Canada) to be here for the party. So of course, I had to share these pictures with you. :) Meet my family. I love them. :)

San Diego & Area Family Photographer - Meet the "R" Family

I love it when I go to a session and the photos WOW me during editing. This was one of those sessions. I met the "R" family through a very dear friend of mine in San Diego, and emailed back and forth with Mama "R" for almost two months before I got to San Diego. By the time I met her, I felt like I had known her for years. We went to the Ocean Beach Pier for their pictures, and I am so glad that we did. :)

Daddy and Me - I love the smiles.
One of the best family pictures I have taken. I love how little "E" is upside down, with her hair almost touching the wet sand, and I really love how little "C" is standing on one foot and exploding with laughter.

Isn't this how life goes? You try to sneak a kiss, when one kid grabs your neck and the other squirms for the ground. So perfect.

Another Mommy & Me picture. These two are going to have so much fun when little "E" turns into a teenager! I can see them going on fun "girl-dates", to the movies, to the mall...ya.

The "R" family were brilliant enough to bring along family friends (aka "surrogate" grandparents) D & L to help watch the kids while I was taking mom and dad pictures. When they got in front of the camera, they weren't shy at all. :) I LOVE LOVE LOVE this picture. Way to show the younger ones how it is done! LOL.

And then off to another beach just down the road...where my wonderful wedding photographer took my engagement pictures (Thanks Robin!). I now know why she loves this beach so much. :)

I had another awesome family/friend photo session while in San Diego. I met the "R" family at Oceanside Harbor for some fun photo time with their adorable sons. I have grown close to this little family over the last few years, and enjoy every second I get to spend with them when I am in San Diego.

San Diego & Area Photographer - Beautiful Miss K

I love it when people ask me to take more pictures of their beautiful children. I have had the absolute pleasure of photographing Miss K 3 times now, and I am totally looking forward to the 4th time in December!

I met Miss K and her mom at Seaport Village, while vacationing in San Diego, CA. This is one of my favorite places to go hang out, and today was no exception. The weather was perfect, and Miss K, true to form, was ready to have her pictures taken.

We started on the merry-go-round. This was one of the first pictures I took of her, and I think it is one of my favorites.
Such a beautiful little girl.

I'm so glad that I brought the balloons for the session. They were perfect.

I could put Miss K anywhere, and she would do something that *made* each picture. Here, it is the way she is holding her head. And her smile...melt.

This picture leaves me feeling a bit stunned. I can't believe how old she looks here...she looks almost 13 years old. Yikes. Sorry mom, I didn't mean to make her look so grown up.

I love photographing one year olds. They are fun, challenging, and so cute that they melt your heart, all in one shoot. :) This little girl had me with her big blue eyes, and awesome smile (when she would let one slip). The "M" Family, is a family full of characters, all the way down to Jake, the super-awesome-lover-doggie (who gave me lots of snuggles between shots).

Edmonton & Area Newborn Photographer - Meet Precious Miss L

I met Gidgett at Hannah's daycare, in 2008, when Hannah was only 15 months old. Hannah loved Gidgett from the moment she met her. And when her speech developed enough, Hannah gave her the name "Mommy Gidgett", which at 3.5 years old, she still lovingly calls her today.

Ten days ago, "Mommy Gidgett" and her husband Chris, welcomed baby #2 into their perfect little family. Little Miss L couldn't possibly be more perfect than she is. Gidgett wanted "girlie" pictures, so I brought a big fluffy tutu. It doesn't get much girlier than that.

These pearls belonged to Gidgett's mom. Adding them to the picture is a beautiful tribute to someone special.

After rescheduling twice due to uncooperative weather, I finally had the opportunity to take little Mr. "E's" first birthday pictures. This was a special session for me, as I had the privilege of doing his mom's maternity pictures, as well as his newborn pictures. To spend time with him as he turns one, was a delight. Edmonton & Area Family Photographer - The "F" Family

Back in 2007, when I was just switching from film to digital, I had the privilege of photographing a wedding. This stunning young couple, was one of my first digital brides & grooms...I am still thankful for the wonderful experience!

Three years later, they asked me to come take some family pictures for them. Horray! What a great time we had on a very hot Father's Day! We walked around their acreage outside of Stony Plain, and used some of the most amazing portrait locations I have seen in a long time. I had to giggle when they told me that their sheds needed a lot of work...little did they know that rustic barns & sheds are one of this photographer's favorite things to photograph people next to. :)

Case and point...look at this beautiful little girl, and the killer textures of the shed behind her. AWESOME!

Edmonton & Area Baby Photographer - Meet Little Mr. "J"

I love it when clients call me back again and again for more pictures. This family phoned me to photograph their newest addition...little Mr. "J". I was thrilled as I had no idea that they were expecting again. It's always a treat when new little bambinos come along. :)

Before the baby was ready for his pictures, I had biggest brother Mr. "T" come smile for me. He's such a sweetheart (and only 6 days younger than my Hannah). Such a great age.

Edmonton & Area Family Photographer - Meet the "K" Family

Most my new clients come by word of mouth, referred by one happy customer. This family, came referred by two! That was a first for me, and I was thrilled beyond measure by it. Meet the "K" family, and their extended family. They asked me to come photograph the family, and then do a mini session with them. And oh my gosh, I had sooo much fun!

These two were so much fun to work with. In this picture, I had a softball balanced on my head, and the camera glued to my face. When the ball fell off, they belly laughed. Perfect...just perfect.

A dear friend of mine asked me to come to the hospital to take pictures of the latest addition to her little family. Mr. "L" was welcomed into the world by his loving mommy & daddy, and his two big sisters, whom I have had the pleasure of photographing before. We had so much fun playing with Mr. "L" today. In all of his newness, he was still so squishy, and relatively easy to calm. Enjoy the sneak peek!

Edmonton & Area Newborn Photographer: Meet Sweet Baby "K"

I had the awesome privilege of meeting Sweet Baby "K" and her Mommy & Daddy (and kitties) today. The moment I walked into their home, I was greeted by the most curious and friendly kitties I have ever met. After setting up the background, I tried to snap a few pictures, just for fun (and to test the light settings), but only one kitty held still long enough to get a good shot. Thanks Missy. Whiskers...I'll get you next time. :)I often like to ask the Daddies what they envision the photo session to be like. More often than not, I get the "I don't know" answer. But then, when you get them in front of the camera and focused on loving their little babies, amazing images just 'happen'. And not just for Daddies...the same thing happens for Mommies too. My favorite part of newborn photo shoots, is the newborns themselves. What little individual people they are already at just a few days & weeks old. She was not impressed with the flower headband.

But she didn't seem to mind it once she drifted off to sleep. :)

All snuggled up.Daddy arms are the best! (especially when there is a tattoo!) They look so tough, and yet so loving at the same time. Sweet sleeping baby. Little "K" is such a beautiful little girl.

Noteworthy Business - Paintings by Carleen Ross

Hello Everyone. Being a home-based-mompreneur who advertises only by word of mouth, I find particular value in spreading the word about other great home-based mommy businesses. So, I thought I would start something new with my blog. From time to time, I will feature a home-based mommy-business, tell you a little bit about them, and hopefully plant a "consumer seed" in your mind.

Today, it is my pleasure to tell you about Paintings by Carleen Ross. Carleen is a friend of mine (for more reasons than just the similarity of our names). She does an amazing job of taking images and painting them on canvas with a little creative interpretation. I had the privilege of doing some family photos for her at her home almost 2 years ago. It was then that I saw some samples of her work hanging on her walls. After that session, I sent her this picture of my Hannah.
In about 5 days, she showed me her final product...

The image was painted on a 24x30 inch canvas with acrylic paint. After seeing it, I (reluctantly) gave it to my parents for Christmas (it was originally intended for their Christmas gift...had I known how beautiful it was going to be, I would have kept it for myself). I have plans to have Carleen do another painting for me as soon as Hailey gets a little older. This time, it will be proudly displayed in my house. :)

Edmonton & Area Baby Photographer - Little Mr. "R"

I love repeat clients. I love watching their families grow and change over the years. This family has asked me to photograph them a number of times in the past four years. When they asked me to take pictures of their newest addition (a boy - horray!), I was thrilled to do so. Little Mr. "R" is as handsome as they come.

Edmonton & Area Baby Photographer - Little Miss "N"

Meet sweet little "N". She is a beautiful little baby who was wide awake and had no intentions of sleeping for our session. I loved watching her facial expressions, and trying to catch every little one on camera.

Edmonton & Area Family Photographer - Meet the "C" Family

Hello Blog-Land! Spring has sprung, and I am starting back to work just as I had planned. Today, I had a session with a long time friend and her little family. Mama "C" and I have known each other for many years. In fact, I used to work for her parents when they owned a little Card & Gift shop almost 7 years ago. (wow time flies!). Mama "C" is also a photographer. See some of her work here. You would think that being photographers, it would be a no brainer to get family pictures done, but in most cases, we have too much fun taking pictures of other families to arrange a session for ourselves. This is where knowing other photographers comes in handy. :)

The "C" Family recently welcomed their little buddy "J" into their family. He is such a smiley little guy, with some amazing eyes. A perfect blend of Mommy and Daddy.

In Balboa Park, there are some really awesome Banyan trees with gigantic roots. This is one of my favorite places to take clients for some pictures. The roots create great texture in the pictures.

No teeth yet, but I do like to chew on things.

Can't you just hear him giggle? It is one of the most infectious giggles I have heard in a long time.

January Update

Hello everyone! I apologize for the lack of posts lately. I have been enjoying life with my two girls. Hailey is now 2 months old, and she is full of smiles. Have a look at this beauty. :)

I wanted to update everyone on what I have been working on during my winter photography break. Mostly, I have been reworking small things like my image watermark (see above), and paper documents. However, one big accomplishment this year is that I have obtained a business license, and a GST number. Going forward, I have to add GST onto all of my prices. The good news is that I am not changing my 2009 prices, except to add that little bit of GST. So a photo session will now cost $157.50 instead of $150.

The weather has been quite mild this January, and it appears that it will stay tolerable outside for a few more days...or at least I hope it does. I have found that my shutter finger has been itching for a photo session or two lately. I suppose one could say that I have "cabin fever" or even "new mommy fever." To get outside and capture some pictures with some of my fantastic clients would be a welcome break from "stay at home mommyhood." Should you find yourself in need of some fun family pictures in the snow, or jumping on the bed, please don't hesitate to contact me to schedule a session.

I hope that 2010 is treating everyone better than expected and I look forward to hearing from you.

I thought I would share some new pictures of my girls. I'm having a great time being a mom of two, and definitely am in awe of those of you with more than two children. Whew...it sure can be exhausting. :)

A Family Session - The "R" Family

This was my second Calgary session. I met this family at a mutual friends' wedding in February, and we just hit it off. Mr. & Mrs. "R" are fantastic, funny and loving people who radiate joy. I couldn't get enough of them at the wedding, and I definitely can't get enough of them now. Especially since I got to meet their entire family. :)

A Family Session - The "Z" Family

My little family and I made a whirlwind trip to Calgary on Sept 26-27 to visit with some good friends and do a couple of fun photo shoots too. The "Z" Family met me at Bowness Park with their little girl Miss "T". She was so precious, and smiley for the camera.

A Family Session - The "D" Family

Later that afternoon (Sept 20th), I met up with the "D" family at Rundle Park. This year, they have a new addition to the family, and decided it was time to update the family portraits. I'm so glad they did. Little Mr. "R" was so adorable with his wild hair and brown eyes.

A Family Session - The "H" Family

On Sept 20th, I spent the morning walking around my neighbourhood with some of my neighbours. The "H" Family and I (and my daughter) will have little play dates from time to time. They are so much fun. 3 children, 1 set of twins...lots of laughter. It doesn't get any better than this. :)

A Family Session - The "K" Family

Working with a family with older children is always fun for me. While I love the younger ones for their innocence, I have really come to appreciate the older ones for their ability to listen to direction...especially now that I can't move as fast as I could before.

I met the "K" family at Fred Johns Park in Leduc for a family session that was originally planned for July. I'm actually thankful that the session had to be postponed until now, because they got some great images with fall colours. It took this family a little while to warm up to the camera, but once they got going, the session was filled with laughter, wrestling, and climbing. :)
